Petaluma plumbing — Victorians, bungalows and everything east of the river.

Petaluma survived 1906, which is why it has some of the North Bay’s best-preserved Victorian and craftsman streets — and some of its oldest in-service plumbing. The west side’s historic homes and the east side’s 1960s–90s neighborhoods are different plumbing worlds, and we work both with the same rule: diagnose first, explain plainly, fix what needs fixing.

  • Incorporated in 1858, one of California’s oldest cities, with a river that runs to San Pablo Bay.
  • Rode out the 1906 earthquake largely intact — which is why the westside Victorians are still standing.
  • Once called the “Egg Basket of the World” for its poultry farms.
Fun Family Fact

Family 1st is a two-generation shop — Andy and his son and daughter, working in and around the business. Small on purpose, accountable by design.

Petaluma homes, by era

We plumb to the house you actually have.

Westside Victorians & craftsman homes

Original cast-iron and clay drains, galvanized remnants, and additions stacked across a century. These homes reward a plumber who traces before cutting — and punish one who guesses.

Eastside family neighborhoods

1960s–90s homes with copper supply now middle-aged: water heaters, angle stops, regulators and original fixtures are the service list, with the occasional slab-leak question in slab-on-grade sections.

New construction & infill

Petaluma’s newer developments and downtown infill bring modern systems — our work there is upgrades, service and ADU tie-ins.

If you check one thing in a Petaluma home

Westside: get the sewer lateral on camera before anything else — clay and cast iron are the era’s weak point. Eastside: look at the water heater and pressure regulator first; the 1960s–90s copper is usually fine.

★★★★★
Andy saved me in a pinch. I was replacing my bathroom faucet and one of the valves was broken - which I was not qualified to replace. He added me to his schedule and completed the work quickly and the price was reasonable despite it being a last minute emergency!

Petaluma homeowner questions

Does Family 1st serve Petaluma?

Yes — Petaluma is part of our regular Sonoma County service area, roughly 25 minutes south of our Santa Rosa base.

We’re buying a Victorian on the west side — what should we check?

Three things before you close: a sewer camera inspection (clay and cast-iron laterals are the era’s weak point), the supply material (original galvanized means a repipe conversation), and water pressure with a gauge. An hour of inspection beats a year of surprises.

Do old Petaluma homes need special care during repairs?

They need a plumber who respects them. We open the minimum, route thoughtfully, and treat hundred-year-old plaster and trim like the irreplaceable material it is.
